#53 Research/Planning – Important Announcement!

Hey everyone, Adrian here. First, I want to acknowledge and apologize for the lack of visible progress on Blackout up to this point. While a lot of ideas and planning have been happening behind the scenes, the project has reached a stage where clear decisions needed to be made. As development continued, it became increasingly obvious that several of our original ideas were no longer practical or effective for a five minute short film. Today marks an important turning point in the production, as we are officially announcing major changes to the film moving forward.

Now with the announcement out the way, it is clear that we will not be proceeding with the production of the 4th archive. Throughout development, there were multiple versions of the film’s storyline. At one point, the plan included as many as four different filming locations, which in hindsight was unrealistic for both the runtime and production schedule. As the story continued to grow, it became clear that the film was becoming too complex, making it harder for an audience to follow and harder to execute effectively.

As part of simplifying the narrative, several concepts had to be removed entirely. This includes the mannequin scene and its symbolic role in the story. Although part of the previous version of the film was already filmed at Matheus’s house, these new changes require the project to restart from scratch. While this was not an easy decision, it was necessary to ensure the final film is cohesive and achievable.

There were also key changes in creative roles. I stepped away from acting and directing responsibilities in order to focus fully on cinematography, filming, and editing. This allows for greater control over the visual style and post production process. Tatiana Jimenez has taken on the role of director and now manages performances, storytelling decisions, and the film’s social media presence. This clearer division of roles improves efficiency and communication.

Casting was also streamlined due to reliability and availability concerns. These factors became essential to making sure the project can be completed on time. The revised storyline now focuses on a single Mustang theft and one kidnapping, which better suits the five minute format while still maintaining tension and engagement.

Real filming will officially resume this Tuesday, starting fresh with the finalized concept. Plans are in place to meet with the confirmed cast tomorrow to catch them up, with Monday dedicated to polishing any remaining details before filming begins. While restarting is challenging, these changes reflect creative maturity, problem solving, and a stronger understanding of how to tell an effective story within strict format constraints.
